Worth the wait

So I was one of the folks that had to order this six times before it finally showed, and it was worth it. 1. I was anxious about the shipping based on concerns from other reviews. I can say without hesitation, I had no problems with a damaged unit. This was the first worry, but as soon as I took it out, I took every precaution to remove everything one box or piece at a time. 2. Assembly was very simple and easy. A couple pieces of advice, read the instructions fully in each step and the immediate one after before tightening everything and moving on. Advice two, do not over-tighten anything, it’s not necessary. My ash tray was also sticking and I realized I had tightened the screws too much and popped the rubber seal into the way. I removed the ash clean out housing and had to put the rubber seal back, it was easy, just needed a small flat head to lift the lip the edges go under and it slid right back in. Then I put the housing back on and the ash clean out tray went back on easy and smooth. I would pay attention to this, as I think many other have complained about this piece. So don’t over-tighten it because it could displace the rubber seal and obstruct the tray going in, and don’t dump the ash until the unit is completely cooled off because metal warps and you don’t wAnt to risk not getting it back in. So far so good, as that was my second concern based on past reviews. 3. Burn off went great and have had two cooks in it. It holds heat and seasons very well. Definitely have to keep an eye on the water pan when you’re burning off and burning hot for hotter smokes. During the two cooks, one was in spring weather and it worked amazing and held temperature really well. The other cook was in freezing temps and snowy weather that surprised us. It held heat very well, just needed to have it set at 250 for it to hold that 225-235 range. Also, lot of folks complaining about the temp increments, if I needed 225 I set it at 220 and it kept it at 220-230 range like every other smoker. Don’t think adding the 5 degree increments to PID is going to do much to change this. And if you want to up it, you can always hit prime for a few seconds and it’ll get to that 5 degree mark and hold it. Only complaint, the “D” screws stink, they go to the two small silver handles in the cabinet (one on PID and other on hopper door), two of them broke from accidentally over tightening (7 year old helping me), but luckily I had extra screws that worked just fine. So take it easy when putting those two handles on. Last, the app worked great for me. I set it up following the directions and it worked fine. I found it actually worked better when I was disconnected from WiFi, so that was nice. Last: be patient and follow the instructions and have a second hand available for assembly. Goes faster and you’re less likely to damage it. That was my biggest anxiety with this, but I had a couple helpers and it’s been great. Would recommend, glad I waited for this one.

Best smoker ever.

Love this big boy, fast delivery and in perfect condition. Assembly Instructions are easy to follow and clear, all is labeled with part numbers (when putting the legs just finger tight the nuts until you install the side plates then secure tightly) this smoker is made to last. Super heavy duty. I seen smokers similar going for 2 3 hundred dollars more, at 495.00 it is a great deal. Every part fits perfectly. My old smoker is a old propane vertical with one know for the temperature control that you have to constantly adjust, add water regularly and replenish the wood chips during the smoking, that been said you have to be there all the time. With this baby I can set up the smoker with brisket before going to bed and get up in the morning to a finish product, water tray hold about a gallon and about 90 pound capacity of pellets. One of my favorite part of design is the controls are on top not at the bottom like many are and get drippings while loading or uploading the food, 2 proves to check the perfect cooking temperature and the double doors, this smoker is a must have. I'm in the process of doing the first use- smoker burn off. Looking forward for Father's day weekend. for my first cooking I will do baby back ribs.
