Awesome Coaster Kit

Loved the ceramic tiles, easy and fun to make professional sturdy coasters, fun to work with your creative side and see what you can do . Supplies you with what you need, and I am an advocate of the set. Can also use the ceramic tiles as a base surface for creating polymer clay products.

Unglazed Tile Coasters For You To Customize- Love Them For Inks And Paint

I like this kit a lot. The coasters come in a sturdy box with a foam insert so they were all in good condition, and not dusty. I wish they had larger quantities (well, they do, but ones that were available on prime...), to be honest- I could paint these all day. They are the kind of thing where it's a small size to work on, but when you complete one, it feels like a finished piece of art.The first thing to note is that these tiles are UNGLAZED, which means they don't have that shiny surface, and it also means whatever medium you apply to them will be absorbed by the ceramic and not "float" on the surface. So depending on your medium of choice, you may want to prime these coasters first. I used alcohol inks (markers and inks) and the ink did sink in to the ceramic, but it also blended nicely when I did different color combinations. I was surprised to find I actually preferred the coasters unglazed because it was a good surface for the markers. I will probably prime several of them to make working with different mediums a little easier (such as acrylic paint pens, color pencil, etc.). I haven't tried yet but I do plan on putting some watercolor ground on them, as well, and see if I can't do some watercolors.Because they are are unglazed, it's a good idea to do a final coat on them with a finish/varnish of some sort. I use the water-based Varathane for everything relating to alcohol ink (and sometimes acrylic) so that's my recommendation. But there are lots of different sprays on the market, and other brush-on acrylic based finishes that are easy to get, inexpensive, easy to apply, and look beautiful once dry.

Easy To Break

These work really great and are very good for sublimation or heat transfer but they are easy to break, I broke 2 trying to figure out a good pressure, but after that I had great results. The adhesive cork works great and is a good way to hide mistakes if you mess up the first attempt!
