Clear envelope

Be careful to note that some of the photos and product descriptions make it seem like this has a frosted-glass envelope; in fact, the envelope is clear and there is a plastic light-pipe in the middle that creates a close approximation of a filament lamp with clear envelope. The shape is not quite spherical, but flattened a bit (an "oblate spheriod") to accommodate the circuit board in the base. The difference isn't noticeable when you screw it into the sort of fixtures (horizontal, multiple bulb, next to a mirror) that use this style of lamp. I don't use it with a dimmer so I can't speak to that topic, but it is supposed to be compatible.
