If you're one of the millions of people who watch American Idol, the name Phil Stacey will be familiar. Stacey, a Kentucky-born singer, made it all the way to the top six during Idol's sixth season. After Idol, the Navy man landed in Nashville and signed on the dotted line with Lyric Street Records.

On his self-titled debut, Stacey cooks up a spicy collection of country-pop tunes that will appeal to both fans of Idol and contemporary country music. Produced by Grammy winner Wayne Kirkpatrick -- the man behind the boards on Little Big Town's last two albums -- Stacey's first album sounds anything but. There is no newbie awkwardness to be found on the 11-track disc, just solidly produced, performed, and crafted material.

Cut from the same cloth as Rascal Flatts and Keith Urban, Phil Stacey is as radio-friendly a disc as they come. The first single, the power pop cut "If You Didn't Love Me," was co-written by Flatts frontman Gary LeVox. The song's big chorus is an exercise in vocal histrionics. Stacey, who honed his vocal chops in church, has a soulful edge to his voice that makes it very pleasing to the ear. The Nashville transplant has all the curling and twirling down cold.

Stacey is all about faith and family, and it shows in his music. The songs here are optimistic and inspiring. Tracks like the meaty "It's Who You Know" and the sweetly fingered "You Are Mine" could be played on Christian radio. Stacey doesn't come right out and sing about God, but the lyrics could be interpreted that way. The organ and banjo chipped "Find You," a bassy love song with a pop sheen, wouldn't sound out of place on a Bon Jovi album.

Whether he's waxing philosophical, the gorgeous piano ballad "No Way Around A River," or patching up a broken heart, the steel and string smoked "Still Going Through," Stacey sells the songs on his debut (none of which he wrote) like he penned them. The former, an uplifting, stand firm in the midst of life's storms song, should be a single. "'Round Here," written by Kirkpatrick and Little Big Town, is a jacked tune with frenzied instrumentation. Imagine Stacey fronting LBT, and you get an idea of how the song plays out.

You can add Phil Stacey to the growing list of American Idol finalists who are turning the country music world on its ear.

Phabulous Debut CD

Phil Stacey's debut CD speaks volumes about who he is as a man by showing his love for his wife and God. There are some wonderful tracks that make you want to blast the radio and roll down the windows as well as some that just make you sit quietly and smile. This is an excellent first album which will be a great start to a long career. Here are my thoughts on the songs: "It's Who You KNow" is a great song with a catchy groove. I love singing and dancing to it and the message is soo true "No Way Around a River" is one of my top pics. It is like God is speaking to me through this song. I'm going through some rough times right now, and this is just what I need to hear. "Still Going Through" is the only song that doesn't feel "real" to me. It is a great song, and I love Phil's voice in it, but knowing Phil's personality and who he is, the song just doesn't ring true. It is a break-up song, and the girl has gotten over him, but he still doesn't feel real because I know how much he and Kendra love each other. "Be Good To Each Other" is a great song....that's all I have to say about that. "Identity" is a powerful song that makes me just say "wow" each time I hear it "You Are Mine" is probably my least favorite song even though I still really like it. I just chose it because it is the only one I don't hit the repeat button on each time it plays. "Round Here" is one of those songs you turn up in the car, roll down the windows, and just blast as you drive down the road "Find You" is in the run for my favorite song. I love the beat and just can't help but dance to it. It is a great song. "Looking Like Love" is one that makes it easy to picture the video that would portray it while it is playing. I picture Phil and Kendra sitting on a couch, going through a photo album. As they look through pictures of them in the beginning of their relationship, the pictures come alive and show them falling in love. It's a great song. "What I'm Fighting For" is a powerful love song. It fits Phil's voice and personality, beautifully. "If you didn't love me" speaks a truth about how love can get us through the toughest times. As you sing along and tap your foot, it will remind you of the great loves in your own life.
