This is the second time I've ordered this item, and it's my first time through Walmart. I have a colony of feral and community cats that came with house I rented 3 yrs ago. The first winter here I ordered it and it did exactly what it was supposed to do. It keeps the water from freezing although it may get a small ring of ice crystals around it when it's below -10-ish. (it's in an open garage) Need to make sure there is adequate water in it due to drinking and evaporation. I usually add some water about 3 times a day. I only bought the second one, not because the 1st one stopped working, but because the extreme calcification from the water in the rural area I live in. I empty and wipe it out really well with a dry rag every 2-3 days now to prevent that as much as possible. I really love this product, and so do the animals.
