Love My Wemo Except The Setup Instructions

I have several Wemo products installed in my home. I purchased the Wemo Smart Plug to use with some outdoor lights. I found the Setup Guide that came was not very useful. In following the instructions for a manual setup I could not get past the last step to enter the Wemo code. My iPhone app continue to give me an error message over two days. Having installed other Wemo smart plugs and switches I finally realized I could use the method used for other plugs. This involves waiting for your iPhone to find the plug in your settings>wi-fi and selecting the plug. From there going back into the app allowed we to finish the setup. This detail was found nowhere on the instructions or the packaging. With this said I will remain a Wemo customer and continue to purchase plugs and switches as needed.

Don't buy unless you have time to troubleshoot

The software is inconsistent and it will not work with the programed rule (Turn on at a time and turn off an another. There are dozens of people all over the internet with the same issue, the setup is not intuitive and rarely works correctly. After fighting to configure the device it works until a firmware upgrade and then you have to go into troubleshooting mode. Support never response to any request so frankly you are on your own to make it work.

Great form factor, but goes offline constantly

I really like the form factor of this Wemo, but it loses connectivity and becomes inactive far more often than my other Wemo devices. I have tried various locations in my house, some very close to the WiFi signal, and I'll still find the device offline. I recommend sticking with earlier models of the Wemo plug.
