Musa ensete is a hardy Banana that makes a wonderful, exotic addition to the landscape. With huge, decorative leaves, this 6 foot tall tree is excellent for pots on the patio or in a conservatory. There is no fruit on this variety, but Musa ensete is a stately tree with very impressive leaves that will create an exotic atmosphere. It is recommended to soak the seed in tepid water overnight before sowing. The seed should be placed ¼ inch below the surface, and the soil should be peat based and kept damp until germination occurs. Glass or plastic can be placed on top of the container to ensure that the soil does not dry out. Keep a constant temperature of 80F. Germination can be slow, 1 – 6 months. Repot the plant as it grows. The larger the container, the larger the tree will grow. It is recommended to winter this tree indoors or in a warm greenhouse.
