Awesome Learning Experience

This robot is more of a learning experience, than a toy. Upon opening the box, you find lots of pieces that look like an erector set, and many screws and bolts. The instructions were, I felt, a little vague, but that is actually a good thing, in that it makes a person take the time to think through how to put it together. In working that way with the pieces, I think it helps a person to figure out how to make plans to create other things out of the pieces. It was kind of like a puzzle for me to build, which was very fun. Once I had the robot built, I charged up the battery, then installed the battery and turned the robot on. When the robot first starts up, the robot goes through a check list to see if everything is installed correctly, which I had not installed the arm servos correctly, and had to fix that. Once everything was correct, the robot tells you to say his name. After saying his name, you can tell him to go to the main menu, and there is a chart in the instruction booklet that lists the commands he already knows. If you do not give him a command for a little bit, he comes up with things he knows how to do, and will ask you if you would like him to do them. There were a couple of times, he just decided to dance and started right in. The robot uses voice recognition, which is kind of a safety feature, in that it will keep a sibling from being able to take controll of the robot. You want to be sure to give the robot quite a bit of room to move around, so he doesn't walk into anyone or anything. This is a very awesome learning tool for any child or adult that loves puzzle type things and has an interest in robotics. He has a mode, where you can teach him things, and give that a command name, and he will do it when you say it. You can also put your phone in his chest plate, and have him copy your movements, or hold your phone in your hand and use it to direct for him to make different movements. The robot has a friendly voice, and he is very entertaining. My one and only complaint would be, the robot was not programmed to respond to the word stop. When he is talking of moving, there is no stopping him, until he is done, and he did walk into a couple of things. I really feel this is an absolutely fantastic learning tool, as you can do so much with it, and it can keep on evolving. You can get other sets to add to him, to make even more things with him. His fingers do not move, but I think a person with enough developed skills, could create movable fingers and hands for him. His arms do move in pretty much real life motions. He is very fun to watch him do his thing. This is one toy that I do not think any child or adult would ever get tired of working with. With this robot, you are investing in your child's, or your own education.

Really neat

This took a few days to finally complete. It came with alot of screws, nuts, etc. I suggest having small bowls or cups to help keep the parts separated as well as help keep them from spilling from packages. We used plastic cups we had left over from a party. My 5 year old and my 11 year old helped my husband put this together. I would suggest many breaks!!! My husband was very tired of putting this together. But the kids had fun. Then it came time to turn him on. He runs a self check to make sure he is built correctly. Which I thought was really neat. Once he has ran that he reboots. I suggest keeping the book handy when you play until you learn all the commands. But you can make him introduce himself. He tells jokes which are cute and funny for the kids. He dances all sorts of dances. He exercises like yoga. His moments are mostly his arms and head. The legs do not bend but do roll and turn. So alot of his movements are very similar like from one dance to another. You are supposed to be able to down load an app and make him move using your phone. I never could connect it to my phone. There are also other things you do online with him. But I never messed with that either. We just put him together before Halloween. We had a kid friendly party so we put a cape around him and he was a big hit. What's funny is when he doesn't respond to people the people usually talk louder almost yelling at him. Really I find if he doesn't respond thr best thing to do is speak slower and clearer not louder....lol!!! But it was funny to watch people repeatedly yell at him!!! Over all he is very cool. But after the first few days he is like anything else and in the corner being unused.

Very fun!

We are having a lot of fun with our family's first real robot! My daughter actually built it by herself and is really proud of what she's accomplished. Building the robot is a pretty advanced project. It's not really something I'd expect anyone to finish in one sitting. That said, the project was really very organized with all of the various compartments in the box it comes in. There are straightforward instructions in a large booklet that comes with it. They're easy to follow but require attention to detail, mostly so parts don't get inserted backwards, which happened a couple of times with us. There are a lot of parts which are grouped into bags, they are high quality and we didn't have any problems, and my daughter really enjoyed building the robot. I think it would have been nice if the hex screwdriver had been a little larger, even though it worked fine as is for us. My daughter definitely learned a lot from building her first robot it was really fun for her, and Meccanoid is very fun to play with, too. There are a long list of commands you can use, and Meccanoid's responses are different each time. She takes him on walks around the house, and he can dance, do kung fu, give high fives, and lots more. She's learning how to program his movements as the robot records and plays back however she moves him. My daughter also likes his voice, and is really enjoying playing with him.
