This review is not a dig at VMI; they're a great company to do business with. Fair prices and shipping so fast it's like they teleport the goods to your house. That said: With this stand, the old adage "You get what you pay for" is definitely true. The stand comes with four, 1" extensions for the two round bars that hold the left and right sides of the stand together. On my unit, two of the four extensions had no threads on their ends. Meaning I could not achieve the full width of the stand. It wasn't worth the expense to send it back, hoping to have better luck with the replacement, so I kept it. Additionally, it's not really height-adjustable UNLESS you add your own nuts/bolts in order to attach the upper and lower halves together. The picture shown for this unit is the only way you can use it without adding your own hardware. As shown, there's actually about another 8" of height you can gain for the stand, but you'll have to add your own hardware in order to use it. The funny thing is that the upper/lower halves are pre-punched for the bolts, yet none are included. I am 6'1" tall and the stand as shown is WAY to short to be useful to me. Adding four nuts/bolts of my own purchase makes the stand about 8" higher than shown and it's a good height. All that said, the stand works well. The optional "C clamps" that screw on the bottom can hold the stand to a table or to a flight case/DJ coffin. (I bought the stand/clamp combo set from VMI on EBay). The stand comes with 8 peel/stick foam pads that you put on the bottom to keep the stand from skidding around. You need to use them on the bottom, but then you don't have any left to use on the upper arms to cushion your laptop. I'd happily pay another $10 for better quality control and additional hardware to utilize the stand to it's full potential. It works well enough for my use (Mobile DJ), but if I had to do it again, I'd probably spend a little more for a better unit.
