Unique Fender Design Fender's Bass VI is a unique hybrid sporting a six-string guitar-type build, lowered an octave for a bassy sound. The curvy, off-set body of this Squier version of the Bass VI is cut from poplar, into a shape near to that of a Jaguar. The body is draped in a sleek gloss polyurethane finish. The maple neck of this retro-cool bass is shaped into a "C" and sports cream neck binding. It's also got period-correct headstock markings and vintage-style tuners.
Innovative Melding of Bass and Guitar Build In the early '60s, Fender dared to listen to those free-thinking musicians who asked "Can't we just put bass strings on a guitar for lower tone with guitar playability?" Why yes, you can. Squier's version of the Bass VI sports a 30" scale length, somewhere between the customary 34" of their basses and 25.5" of their guitars. It's strung with Fender nickel-plated steel strings with gauges from .024 all the way up to .084. It's got a 6-saddle vintage-style bridge with non-locking floating vibrato to keep those deep, powerful strings in place as you strum, pluck, and pick them in whatever way suits your playing style.
Triple Alnico Single-Coil Pickups with Slide Switches This Classic Vibe Bass VI showcases three Fender-designed alnico single-coil pickups, specially made to capture the unique low-end sound from this 6-string bass. To adjust and shape your tone, there are 3-on/off slide switches for each pickup, so you can choose the combination that you love the most. The fourth switch is a 2-position "Strangle" switch which acts as a bass-cut for when you want to significantly modify your tone and achieve a little more guitar-esque sound. There are also two knobs for the master volume and tone.
