Mieruko-chan: The Complete Season (Blu-ray + DVD Crunchyroll)

(Buy Today, Maybe Try, or Pass By) This show is a "Maybe Try" quality title for me. Mieruko-chan... oh Mieruko-chan... The title character Mieruko sees spirits of the dead and nature spirits so basically souls and yokai. Most are, as you can see in a trailer, freakishly scary-looking. If you don't know much about yokai, they are Japanese folklore spirits that arise from the lands itself. They often protect it and are worshiped as gods, and titled "kami." Though, the souls of the dead and yokai alike can become twisted and dangerous for different reasons. The main point of this show is Mieruko can see them but not really do anything. She does eventually kind of "temporarily" gain the ability to defeat the dangerous yokai that she sees. But, it's too little too late. The show is mostly over at that point. The show has beautiful animation and nice character designs (including the freaky-looking yokai/spirits). But, the plot is mostly just Mieruko trying to not get noticed. The show has some potential but, the lead really should have gotten supernatural powers. She doesn't. Maybe the manga gets better later but, this show was disappointing to me as of where it ended... It ended the major story arc but the lead characters didn't achieve enough progress overall. It's 5/10 show or 6/10 if you really like the art... I did really like the art style of this show...
