I've been using this particular item for several years now and does exactly what I need it to do, which is prove good amount of heat for our dogs during the winter. They last long but the only reason I had to buy a new one was because I accidently broke the bulb when cleaning out the kettle.

worked well. Used for some baby chicks we got. had them in a cardboard box with an open lid and kept the temp at about 90 degrees after a few weeks we turned it off because it was keeping it too warm for the chicks. but kept them warm for the critical 1st few weeks.
