Replacement Vermiculite replaces the original material that came with your LP gas log set only.

Vermiculite is used to assist in the distribution of LP gas for a more uniform flame pattern and a fiery ember bed. This lightweight material is placed in the burner pan of a vented gas log set and serves as a medium for liquid propane. Helps maximize the heat provided by your LP gas log set. DO NOT USE WITH LP UNITS.

This vermiculite replaces the original material that came with your LP gas log set.
