For home use this is good grinder. I'd say 3 pounds per minute is about limit on how fast this can grind. Instructions warn not to grind meat with tendons (meaning shank leg meat) or nuts or bones. Using the plate with largest holes and venison shoulder and steak trimmings cut into 2"x1"x1" chunks, as recommened, the grinder processed the meat without need to use the plunger. I did have to use the plunger for the 2nd grinding using the medium hole plate since course ground meat didn't drop down to the auger without the plunger. Working at a pace that didn't have me waiting to drop more meat into the grinder feeder tube I ground about 2 1/2 pounds of meat per minute using the plate with largest holes and highest speed. It has a reverse feature that I did not need to use but tested just to see how it worked. The instructions indicate not to run grinder for more than 5 minutes and the timer is convenient to let you know when to give grinder a cooling off break. I did run one batch up to 4 1/2 minutes and the air from blower fan on motor was warm but not hot. My 20 year old grinder that this grinder replaced vented from bottom and would heat up plastic housing if it ran more than a couple minutes. This grinder vents the hot air directly off motor that is a better design. Engaging the locking lever to attach the feeder housing to the grinder base doesn't take much effort but it keeps housing firmly attached. The latching design makes it quick to attach and remove the feeder housing.
