A Nice Addition To My Garden

These lights look very nice in my front flower garden. They emit a yellowish light and they don't seem to attract bugs. If the day is very sunny, they will last a few hours at night, so I am happy. I'm thinking of buying another box for the garden in my backyard. In my photos you can see the difference in the light colors.

Came in a proper package in 2 boxes of 6. The time bore, I had bought 15 in 5 orders of a three pack. It was not a good experience. Those came with sets of three wrapped in brown crepe paper and in 12 of 15, someone had taken out the batteries. I actually do not use them as solar lights, so I kept them but otherwise I'd have returned them. The batteries in the solar lights do not last long and if you want to replace the batteries you find out they cost more than the light. I have found it is cheaper to buy solar lights (I prefer glass than plastic), take out the solar guts, replace the LED with a standard 3 volt warm white 5 mm LED (About 10 cents ea) attach a 150 ohm resisor and run the wires out through the bottom. For good measure, I put a bit of silicone putty where the wire exits through the bottom battery cap to prevent ingress of bugs. I also slip a a piece of reflective mylar on the bottom of the LED where the solar cell normally is. Obviously, this requires one to open the globe. Last year when I bought smaller ones they were twist open, no problem. I wasn't sure if bugs could still get in, so I put a bead of black hot glue in the glass-plastic junction all around. In the batch of 15 bought earlier this year, someone had opened the glass top and put some kind of black adhesive between the glass and the plastic. It required several minutes of a hair dryer to go around before I could open it. Lot of extra work. Thankfully, there was no such glue in the new batch. This is a good product Wal-Mart, at a good price. Thank you for that. But you should be aware of unscrupulous merchants did with the last batch. I could use with effort - it would be useless for any conventional user without any battery!

I attached little clips to each fence post and slid one of these solar lights into them. It looks awesome at night. Inexpensive decor for fences or pathways
