for the $10.74 this light cannot be beat!

i was looking for a light comparable to the "Surefire Saint Minimus Variable-Output Headlamp" priced at $179.00 US. i do not remember the search string i used on google, but the seemingly endless string of pics of all the different headlamp pics at the top of the page just kept on going. well to keep this shorter one of the pics was this lamp on walmart.com. well just like most people trying to find a better quality product and by better quality i mean something that lasts with more rugged usage (you know...real life), walmart is just not on the list of places to shop for quality designed and built durable products. at the very least this has been my conclusion listening and watching other peoples reviews of their purchases over the years. so i was extremely skeptical and pessimistic about purchasing this product. i went round and round with myself about this for a while looking at the specifications of this headlamp and comparing them to the more expensive surefire above. now that lamp has some big advantages over this unit, for one thing there is a temp rating on that and some the materials are more rugged than this lumapro unit, but it is also built to live in much more aggressive and hostile environments under extreme life and death situations. so general life usage is not going tax the product. all that being said this lumapro unit may not be as heavy duty built, but for $10.74 this is a comparable unit. the body is aluminum tube. the switch is on high/low/off. the strap seems well made and durable as any other production elastic strap out in the world. the lamp holding loops are a rubber/plastic of some formula and are sturdy. the specs state the beam distance is 72 meters my guess to see the light from, but in actual usage i have a 42 ft duct-way i have to do work in in my shop and i can honestly say that from the entrance end all at the far 42 ft, end can be clearly seen as far as useful bright light is needed. so the same light at an actual working distance (arms length) seems more than enough for me and i no longer have great eyesight. now the only comparable problem of this lamp to most others and the surefire is the lamp that i saw while comparing is the battery life. at a bit more than one hour per battery it is at the low end of the list. maybe not as efficient, but i have good rechargeable batteries so that is not any concern to me personally. also this light is aluminum bodied not plastic so it seems heavier to hold in the hand, but on the head i did not notice the weight. now i am a large man so others may notice the weight after a while. at the end the true measure of this product will be the longevity of the strap and the lamp holder loops. the lamp will probably long outlast them both. but for the $10.74 the purchase was and will always be worth the effort, and without doubt recommend buying and having one or more of these around.
