Key item features

This live release has quite a complicated history: in 1979, Supertramp toured the world in support of their mega-selling album Breakfast in America. They played shows on four consecutive nights in Paris and recorded these performances on tape and on 16mm, and while some of the audio material was later released on their 1980 live album Paris, the video disappeared. In 2006, Supertramp drummer Bob Siebenberg found a heavily deteriorated copy in his barn, and together with director Peter Clifton (who made Led Zeppelin's 1973 concert film The Song Remains the Same), the group restored the material and asked the original sound engineer, Pete Henderson, to create a 5.1 audio mix from the original tapes. The result can be seen and heard on the DVD and Blu-Ray Live in Paris 1979 -- which was released in 2012 without the consent of ex-bandmember Roger Hodgson, who posted an "open letter" on his website where he essentially called the release a rip-off. Apart from the 19-track concert recording (which differs from the 1980 live album because the material was taken from a different night), the DVD/Blu-Ray contains five bonus live recordings where the video was lost. Also released on Blu-Ray. ~ Christian Genzel, Rovi

Not bad, but best for super fans in my opinion

This concert was a piece-together since the original tapes were not in good shape and some footage was missing I believe from the original concert. Overall though I think it was a successful compilation. Not being huge SuperTramp fans (fans in passing), my wife and I didn't realize there would be so many songs with which we were unfamiliar. The big plus for us was having a video copy of most of their 1979 Breakfast in America tour with Roger Hodgson when they were probably at the peak of their success. We enjoyed "The Logical Song", "Goodbye Stranger", "Breakfast in America", and "Take the Long Way Home", in particular. They had others like "Give a Little Bit" we liked, but they also have some that were bonus material because I think they didn't have the footage from the original concert. Basically, I would only recommend this concert if you are a devoted fan in which case it might be a 'must have'. If you have a passing fanship like us and are only interested in their top 4-8 songs that ever got air play on the radio back in the day, you might consider skipping it. The quality is not bad considering how long ago this concert was. They put some effort into cleaning it up and I applaud that.
