Preliminary review.... Clarifying features
I have only gotten this setup today, but needing to explain some things Jim R saw I, too, don't use Windows and had a little trouble getting the thing to DHCP (though this may be due to it being connected to a partially-configured Mikrotik switch port right now. I tossed the disk immediately since I wasn't going to run it on my Linux box even if it was supported. HOWEVER, at least in my model, it seems like all the features are available in the Web UI. 802.1Q VLANs can be substituted for port-based by selecting the VLAN tab, disabling port-based and then clicking the 802.1Q button in the light-blue sub-menu at the top. In fact, in order to use multiple tags per port you have to enable VLAN Configuration under the Advanced 802.1Q section which disables the Basic 802.1Q section. Workable, but remind me of the clunky UI on a TP-Link I bought It supports loop detection, which is great and all, but doesn't specify what kind of loop detection, which I need to know when mixing it with other switches. Gonna dig around online to make sure before I wire it up somewhere full-time, don't need some spanning-tree mess. tl;dr: It seems to support everything it claims via web UI, not sure what the other review saw. Wish it had better docs
