LG Electronics USB 2.0 Ultra Slim Portable DVD+/-RW External Drive

The Bottom Line: Would I buy this again or recommend it to someone I personally know? YES. The device does exactly what I needed it to do, read DVDs and Mini DVDs with my MacBook Air. The price was great and it is a known brand, not an off label so I'm hoping it will last a long time. The Pros: -Plug and play with my MacBook Air -Plays Mini DVDs and Normal DVDs -Plays CDs -Burns disks -USB Powered The Cons: -The plastic shell feels very light and thin -I would not feel safe putting this is a laptop bag and traveling with it as it seems like thin plastic -Need to buy a case for this device if you plan to take it everywhere you go, otherwise this is perfect for working at home. The Details: Im not going to review all of the specs as you can look at the manufactures website if you want geek out on specs. What I will do is tell you how I plan to use it. I needed a DVD player with a slide out tray to fit the Mini DVDs with my home movies from years ago. I also needed a DVD player for normal DVDs I watch. The apple branded player will not work with Mini DVDs, this LG works well. I plan to rip the DVDs into files and edit with with software I already have. That said the software it comes with I did not test out; however, it comes with free software and drivers. I did not need the drivers as the device works right out of the box with my MacBook Air running macOS Catalina 10.15.5. The device responds to the built in DVD player and iTunes controls. Burning a new disk with this LG device was also very easy using the built in tools on my computer. Thank you LG for a very handy device now my old movies are not lost on those old Mini DVDs.
