Finicky deadbolt

I've installed a bunch of different keyed doorknobs and deadbolts. The particular deadbolt with this set is frustratingly difficult to align. You'll think everything is just right, but the screws will wiggle wildly and miss their destination. Love the look from the outside. The pismo interior knob is fine. The interior deadbolt has very visible screws. The offset deadbolt lever is interestingly stylish, but the screws draw the attention.

What Were You Thinking Kwikset?

I've been selling and installing Kwikset for 40 years and every few years Kwikset feels the need to solve a problem that doesn't exist. This deadbolt design is terrible. Instead of directly operating the backset via the torsion bar they have now introduced another drive torsion bar. More moving parts equals more chance for failure . In addition, it is harder to operate the knob inside and the key is almost impossible for elderly or for my client with arthritis. Installation took twice as long with repeated attempts to align the deadbolt and all of its components. This design may work in a controlled environment where everything is absolutely perfectly aligned but for those of us in the field, it sucks!
