After having a great experience building the Bugotti Technic set, and being thoroughly happy with all aspects of that model, I was looking at YouTube and saw the Porsche GT3 ST set which is also 1/8 scale. I wanted to relive the challenge and enjoyment of the Bugotti. Since the Porsche GT3 RS is retired, I ordered from another on-line retailer, and this set did not disappoint. It was a great experience putting this model together and noting the differences between the Porsche and Bugotti such as the paddle shifters versus the PDK system; as well as the different versions of the “marriage” phase of the build in both models. The instruction book contained great images and information about the Porsche, and it is also great to have two great 1/8 models on display. I am very glad I had the opportunity to get this Porsche GT3 RS set and I look forward to Lego's next supercar model in the same scale. These two models have made a collector out of me!

Fun Build and a Beautiful Model
Great Technic set
My last Lego model I played was on the years 1985-1987.
Once I saw this model on youtube.com – I said to myself I MUST HAVE IT!
I think that the BOX is very impressing. The book is thick, and the build instruction are understandable maybe one or two stages are not very clear.
It's a great fun to build this model.
I like the stages of construction.
1. Basic chassis stage – you can see all the car from the base line
2. The second part of the chassis that wears over the first
3. Covering the car with the orange plastic parts - the car gets the final shape.
4. additional small details to finish + wheels.
Focus on details, makes this very fun to build.
I took my time to build it, with my 6th year kid every day or too for 2H at a time.
In this way I could prolong the build and quality time with my son.
Once we finished, it was amazing.
The gear is hard to switch, but overall, I think Lego did a good job.
I'm writing this review after I build the Bugatti as well. And I must say that this is my favorite model.
sure, the newest one has mor parts and details. but I feel that in this model there was a greater investment.
I have many issues with the Bugatti model that maybe we will be review in its page.
Great model. My next one will be the Land Rover , this is the Sports car for all times.
Fun to build, fairly simple to put together as long as the instructions are followed.
A challenging and rewarding build!
This was my first Lego Technic build in over 15 years, and I must admit it was a great build to get me back into the range. The presentation of the set is by far the most impressive ever seen by Lego. Opening the box instantly shows the effort put into the development of this set. It feels like a premium collectors piece worthy of the high price tag.
The build itself is straightforward, and will give little problems if giving it 100% concentration. Unlike other technic sets that focus on mechanics first and presentation second, this set is truly about its looks. Whilst all the internal workings are hidden by panels and the steering has a lot of play in it, this set is a must have for any Porsche or Lego enthusiast. I hope Lego will invest in future 1:8 scale builds.
Worth the money!
I can't believe how much detail and effort the lego designers put in this set, taking three years to develop! I had such an amazing experience putting the 4 speed transmission together, then continuing with the interior, after the body work of the Porsche. You get an code ingraved in a 1 X 4 white tile that give you special access to a certificate and pictures. Without any mortors or anything in the way, they could've add HOG steering as a option to the builder but, I really wish they could've make this an RC because there is plenty room to add a servo and a XL mortor. I'm still completely satisfied with the product although it lacks some features it should've had!
Great build, the paddle shifting was genuinely new
I typically buy all the new Technic sets and finally got around to this set.
Physically, it's only a bit larger than the 24 Hour Race Car (https://shop.lego.com/en-US/24-Hours-Race-Car-42039) which, don't get me wrong, is a great value set. But the level of detail in this set is significant in that there's more than twice the number of pieces for approximately the same size.
But most importantly, this set introduces two really cool concepts that I had personally never had the fun to experience.
First, it has a shifter in the center (like most cars) but only has forward, neutral, and reverse. The mechanism for switching between forward and reverse was pretty satisfying.
But far more interesting was the paddle shifter, which, each time its depressed, increments or decrements the gear ratio a quarter-turn at a time. In fact, even after building it, I'm still not sure how it works. :) I'm going to have to disasssemble it and rebuild it to fully appreciate the mechanic.
In the end, it's a gorgeous model, and the level of curvaceous detail is impressive for a lego set. End-to-end a really enjoyable build and I highly recommend it to any fan of the Technic theme.
I would start off by saying this thing is no where near a toy. The level of detail is amazing and the use of the bendy cables to give simulated curves is brilliant. This thing is solid with all the bit I would of liked to see on a high end build. Build over 2 days, literally couldn't put it down. Although I would suggest a large area for setting the pieces out.
Great model and suggestion
Being a fan of Porsche since a kid I could pass on this model. Enjoyed building with sometimes the help of my kids.
Had difficulties to find a display case for it, but now happy that it sits in my garage with other car theme items.
Suggestion/opinion: i have added miror face to my model. What do you think ? See pictures.
It was a great set. It took me about 6 and half hours to build it and I recommend it to everyone.
I liked the instruction Manuel because it was so great and had a lot of information, not only for the set itself but also to the real car.
About the country.... Well I'm not in USA in new York but there was no option for Israel so I randomly picked a country.
Good "display" model
Overall, as I've emphasized the "display", unlike other Technic models, 42056 isn't suitable for 'mechanical' people. Although the paddle shifter transmission is the most complex transmission from stock LEGO, their operation isn't visible once you finish the model. Also, the engine room view is limited and you won't exactly see how the H-6 engine operates. (note that real Porshce is Boxer... not H-6..)
In terms of playablity, the steering has too much backlash (almost similar to the 42054 tractor) and lack of hand of god (steering knob) makes it hard to play with. Suspension is not too bad but you can find similar suspension in 42039 which is almost 1/3 price.
Possibly, we can at least install XL motor (indicated in one of pictures) to see how the paddle shifter changes the wheel speed although a single XL motor at the location won't be able to provide enough propulsion to move the entire model, anyway.
However, the model itself has fantastic shape when finished and almost anyone can recognize the Porsche. In other words, it's much functional and larger than most diecast models. The "Presence" is the key!! (IMO, the presence is better than 42055!! really!!)
Assembly itself is not hard at all. In fact, if you get through the box 1 perfectly, hardship is completely over. Box 2, 3, and 4 are just panels and interior decoration. At least the box 1 was fantastic to build... The brake pads were kind of bummer, though...
As you may already know, the instruction actually leads you to skew paddle shifter sequence. It becomes 1->3->2->4 if you follow the instruction. In fact, LEGO intentionally designed this way to avoid mechanical backlash and gear grinding... We can make the sequence correctly but the transmission gear grinds (especially on lower gear) a lot.
Again, if you want a Technic brand, DISPLAY model, this is the best one you can get. But if you want anything actually operates, it's better to get 42039 + gear parts for transmission + PF parts(with IR controller set). Making 42056 reasonably fast RC with transmission would be a nice challenge for me though.
