AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!

“This Golden Girls meets James Bond thriller is a journey you want to be part of.” -Buzzfeed

Older women often feel invisible, but sometimes that’s their secret weapon.

They’ve spent their lives as the deadliest assassins in a clandestine international organization, but now that they're sixty years old, four women friends can’t just retire – it’s kill or be killed in this action-packed thriller by New York Times bestselling and Edgar Award-nominated author Deanna Raybourn.

Billie, Mary Alice, Helen, and Natalie have worked for the Museum, an elite network of assassins, for forty years. Now their talents are considered old-school and no one appreciates what they have to offer in an age that relies more on technology than people skills.

When the foursome is sent on an all-expenses paid vacation to mark their retirement, they are targeted by one of their own. Only the Board, the top-level members of the Museum, can order the termination of field agents, and the women realize they’ve been marked for death.

Now to get out alive they have to turn against their own organization, relying on experience and each other to get the job done, knowing that working together is the secret to their survival. They’re about to teach the Board what it really means to be a woman—and a killer—of a certain age.

Fun Thriller

** “It's the kick, the constantly measuring yourself against the odds and figuring out how to zig when you expected to zag, balancing on that knife's edge.” ** Deanna Raybourn offers a fun yet suspenseful tale of four retiring assassins suddenly finding themselves on the wrong side of the coin. When Helen, Natalie, Mary Alice and narrator Billie retire after 40 years at the Museum, an extra-government organization that neutralizes people who deserve to be neutralized, they realize they're in trouble when they recognize a fellow asset on their retirement cruise. An elite assassin squad that was the first all female team, the four women soon find themselves running for their lives, coming up with a clever plan to save themselves. Raybourn does a great job of combining intensity with comical moments to make a great thriller. She fills the plot with twists and turns, all while creating a delightfully lovely set of characters filled with pluck, courage and even relatability. “Killers of a Certain Age” also reminds us of some good concepts, like adapt or die; justice over law; and the necessity of teamwork (“True leadership, Miss Webster, is not about trusting yourself. It is about trusting your team”). One word, this book does contain quite a lot of cursing as well as some crude references. This novel is a bit of Richard Osman's Thursday Murder Club book series meets the movie “RED,” so fans of those types of stories will love “Killers of a Certain Age,” which is due out Sept. 6. Five stars out of five. Berkley provided this complimentary copy through NetGalley for my honest, unbiased review.

If You Plan to Take Out Killers, Don't Miss

Billie, Mary Alice, Helen, and Natalie have spent their lives working as assassins for a super-secret organization that calls itself the Museum. They have had a successful career individually and as a team, but they are ready to retire now. However, the cruise that the Museum sends them on turns out to be a trap. Now they have to wonder who is out to kill them. And why. I've been hearing good things about this book, so I went in looking forward to it. And I did enjoy it. It reads like an action movie, and there were plenty of scenes that had me turning pages. However, it could have been stronger, with another few twists and turns and slightly stronger characters. The book fits in the action genre in that regard, right? It does have more language and violence than I typically read. It also has plenty that made me smile and laugh as I was reading. Most of the book is written in first person past tense, but we a few chapters flash back to the past and they are written in third person present tense. While I didn't think this book was quite as good as many others seemed to, I definitely enjoyed it and I'm glad I read it.
