20" Kent Kobra Mountain Bicycle, Fits Rider 4'2" - 5', Black/Pink, Child, Unisex

We bought this for my 8 year old to learn on. She's 4'8" and it fits her great. This bike is a great value (no pun intended) and, even though she's only had it for a few months, I have no concerns over it lasting until she out grows it. That being said, she will not be trail riding it. The sole purpose of this bike is for her to learn on and go on casual gravel rides with her mother and I. While researching bikes, I did notice that there were some quality concerns for this model but they seemed to primarily come from assembly issues. I ordered the bike on the app and had it delivered so we could wrap it boxed up for her birthday. The bike was well packaged. There was no damage and all of the parts were there and accounted for. I took my time with the assembly and made sure to properly adjust things like brakes and the gear derailer, needing only basic hand tools. If you don't know to perform a good set up, take it to a local bike shop or look up an instructional video. I assume your average assembly employee doesn't take the time to do a proper set up, and that may be the reason for other reviewers issues. Once set up properly, the bike has performed flawlessly. The paint and decals, especially the Kent logo above the forks, were surprisingly nicer than I had expected for the price point. My favorite feature, and the primary reason we bought this model, is the gearing. Having a single gear in the front keeps things from getting too complicated but being able to gear down made learning to take off much easier. She could get up to speed more quickly and focus more on balancing than pedaling hard. The brake levers do feel very cheap and may eventually get upgraded but currently do the job, although I do appreciate the bult in ability to adjust the reach of the lever for smaller hands. The kickstand lever was very stiff at first but seems to be loosening up with use. I could probably tweak it if it remains a concern. Otherwise, if your kid will be doing basic commuter style riding, I can, and have to friends, recommend this bike. If your child is above a beginner level and ready for actual mountain bike trails, you may consider going up market for something a bit more robust. Overall, great bike at a fantastic value.
