So far so good

This has been installed for just about a week now. Unfortunately we have had a cold spell since installation so I cant rate the effectiveness of the filters and UV light at this time as its not warm enough for algae growth. What I can say is the instruction manual is not great for first timers. This is my first "dry" filter system. All my other systems were in the actual pond. I have a koi pond outside in Wisconsin with 9 Koi. I have a disability that prevents me from being able to clean filters that have to be removed from the pond and placed back in. So we bought this. Its pretty straight forward for the most part. You will have to take the screws off the top to remove the protection over the ALREADY INSTALLED uv bulb. There will be a bulb included as well in a box. This is a spare/extra. I have my pump and a fountain that sprays out the top of my pump in my pond. With a splitter that can be used for a spitter/waterfall or just water flow back into the pond. We ran a hose from the side of the splitter to the "in" attachment on filter. Then ean another tube from the "out" attachment of the filter back into the pond (just free flowing). This was all very straight forward. Its important to note there are hose clamps (black) included with the filter and two different size fittings so accommodate a wide range of hose sizes. Then we attached a hose to the "dirty water disposal" attachment on the filter so it will empty dirty water away from the filter when we clean it. We have not had to clean it yet. The instructions say to watch the indicator. However my indicator has condensation in it so Im not sure how to read it. We chose not to "bury" our filter in the ground at all. Instead we have it placed on a level steady surface that would not allow for it to tip over even in the most inclement weather. This allowed me to camouflage the filter with my hostas so its not an eyesore which was very important to me. Im still getting used to having hoses running in and out of the pond. Im not super keen on the esthetics of this but its a trade off for easy cleaning that comes with having a dry filter system. Im overall happy with the purchase but will need to see how it handles hot weather algae growth and how easily and effectively I can clean the system.
