Great leather protector

Love mink oil, the protection on work boots, and keeping leather products conditioned so that they last. This is a good product, my son absconded with it and I was only able to get one use, will buy again.

Makes your old shoes feel soft and waterproofs it.

This product is part of the Spark Reviewer Program. I was excited to get this as my son and husband have several leather shoes for dress up as well as outdoor work. My first set of shoes are my son's very old steel toe Wolverine boots. They were filthy. I took a brush to them first, then wiped them with a wet rag followed up with saddle soap. When the shoes dried they were clean but hard and crackly. These shoes are several years old but still have a long life left so it is worthy to apply a waterproofing mink oil to them. The mink oil is a white colored paste. As the boots were so old and dried out it took a lot of oil to work into the first boot before it looked like it had anything on it. The old boot did change in color as much of the original coloring has been worked off and scuffed. After applying the oil the boot was amazingly soft. It still wasn't a pretty looking boot. I did a water test on the boot I used the oil with and the boot I had not finished as yet. The non oiled boot slowly dripped a bit off but absorbed the rest of the liquid. The boots were originally water proof and still seem to have some resistance to water. The boot I did oil did not absorb the water. So for old boots this oil is a good choice for getting a few more years out of the leather. It won't do anything for the bottom of the boot though. The other set of shoes are my husband's shoes he wears in the office. They are not that old but had some visible scuffs and salt stains already. They are leather and man made uppers. I am not sure what material is not the leather. I suspect it is just the inside of the shoe that is not leather. Couple things to note on his Docker Shoes... Some of the brown shoe dye came off on the rag. I am not sure I liked that. The scuffs darkened up and were not so visible. That is good. The canister says it may darken the leather. On this set of shoes I did not see any noticeable change in darkening. The salt stains became the same color as the shoe but you could still see an outline of where the salt was. A few water drips were applied to the shoes. The mink oiled shoe dripped off as well as beaded up better. The other shoe not oiled did absorb some water so the mink oil did help with stopping water absorption. The other thing I noticed is on new shoes that have not been severally damaged with wear, the amount of oil is greatly reduced. For my review I am only allowed two photos. The right foot of each shoe is the one that was oiled. I have the same sets in two different locations outside hoping it would be easier to see any differences. The newer shoes show less change. The canister says do not use on suede or nubuck leather. 3 ounces of paste will actually take care of several shoes if they are not old and "thirsty". I can't say for sure how many pairs it will last but the amount of paste I have currently is still a fair amount. I do like the paste. It isn't too hard that you have to really work to get it on a rag. It isn't so soft that you put too much on a rag either. It has a nice consistency and not much smell. This is a nice product and I would recommend it.

Definitely works

I used this on my work boots that I wear daily. It definitely does what it says. We have had a lot of rain in Ky and I'm able to take care of the animals when its pouring without worrying about my feet getting wet. I suggest everyone try this if you need a good waterproofing option for leather boots.
