However, the included bulb is not bright enough for reading, even at maximum brightness. The remote control seems like an unnecessary addition that adds little. I would prefer the manufacturer to offer a version without a remote control at a reduced price.

perfect! i took the white "inside" shade out - easy to remove - (velcroed together) i just like it without. nice to have the choice. i thought about painting it (i am an artist) i still may do that at some point. but i love it as is. the cord is long enough tgat i wrapped it up to the top of the lamp so that i can walk by it and squeeze it on instead if havong it on the floor to step on to turn on. it also has a remote but i wont be needing it. great buy! great look. very happy.

It's looks great, it's dimmable, and gives a lovely warm light. (I use the 2 shades combined.) It fits perfectly in a corner, taking up barely any space at all. Comes with a light bulb. I highly recommend.
