because it's abs plastic i was able to snip the gasket and get it to bend in the almost 4" hole completely sealing the hole from the exterior elements in the process because it bent in (still clearing the dryer vent completely) and acts like a gasket.....rather than buy a new hole saw. The slightest breeze on its one-way valve setup and it clears out. $5 vent with a 5 minute fix to replace a dry rotted broken Deflecto without pest repellent You'll want to attach with exterior screws that allow for shrinking and expansion of the surrounding exterior wall - but it looks so much nicer (a modern upgrade) than the old wedge style openings!

The product arrived quickly, which was nice. The packaging didn't amount to much, and there were no instructions or fasteners or anything extra with it. For the price, I didn't expect anything extra, but I'm just letting you know, there won't be any screws or hose clamps or instructions in the box. Just the vent cover. Fortunately, I had screws and hose clamps already, and I didn't need instructions so it worked out just fine. If you don't meet those criteria, then you'd best get what you need at the same time you order this...or order something else. There's nothing fancy going on with this thing. Your device, whether it's a dryer or some kind of exhaust fan or whatever, kicks on, and if you have everything hooked up correctly the slats open and allow the air to exhaust. If there is no airflow the slats close and prevent outside air from coming in and keeping your climate-controlled air from seeping out. I can't really say I'm overly pleased with the product, but I'm not disappointed either. It looks fine and it works fine. It does what I bought it to do. And it's far better than a gaping hole in the outside wall with a 4-inch hose dangling out of it.
