I used this product today as well as the popcorn texture about a year ago. Both were small patches about 8" in diameter. I was happy with both results. The techniques and steps I found most beneficial are: 1) Remove ALL loose material and use an oil base stain block paint, brushing heavily on the flat surface along the periphery of the area to be patched. This minimizes the "step" created at the edges caused by removing loose material and aids in disguising the patch. 2) If patch is close to an adjacent wall, mask wall at corner and tape plastic down and onto floor. 3) If care is taken upon application, it's best not to mask ceiling surrounding the patch. This will allow a blended feather edge and not an abrupt end to the patch caused by the papering or masking. 4) Pressure in the can needs to be increased, especially if it has been stored in a cool place for a long time. Even at the store, on a shelf. Fill the sink with hot tap water as far as the black neck of the can. 5) The can MUST be shaken very well. With the can upside down, shake vigorously for at least 1 minute after hearing the ball rattle. Start with a less textured setting, you can always dial up. Depress the trigger fully. This allows the larger pieces room to escape the nozzle. Clear out nozzle by spraying upside down until cleared immediately after so you start the repair with a clean nozzle. 8) About 16-20" from ceiling, depress trigger fully. Starting in the center of the patch and use a rapid back and forth (12-14") or a circular motion. You can always slow down and/or move the nozzle closer. Be careful not to spray too thick or the texture will begin to smooth out and lessen dramatically. 9) Spray just onto the old texture to create the feathered edge. 10) Clear out nozzle after use. Patch will turn much whiter with less gloss as it dries.
