Nice house

This is a nice sized condo style bird house specifically designed for Blue Martins. The aluminum is a little thin hence the 4 of 5 stars. Its also a bit of a pain to put together - lots of little screws and nuts. But the finished product is quite nice. You don't need a special pole as any 1-inch diameter sch. 40 pipe will do the trick. I used a 1.25-inch by 5' PVC sleeve cemented into the ground 3 feet as my base. The 1-inch pipe fits nicely inside the PVC sleeve. You can get 5' threaded and coupled pipe lengths at the HD or Lowes. That way you can get it up as high as they recommend namely 12 feet or more.

18 Room Purple Martin House - Heath

As earlier reviewers commented, this house is very difficult to assemble. nuts have to be held with pliers to get into angled spaces where fingers don't fit. As the directions state, it requires 2 people to connect the roof. The entrance holes are 2", not the recommended 11/4" which keeps out the starlings. The aluminum is extremely thin and must be handled carefully or it will bend. The house sections must be removed from the pole to clean them out. The 6 floor panels must be removed from the top story to clean them out. The house is very large, due to each nesting box being an 8" X 6" trapezoid. Overall house measurement is 27" X 27". It is much larger than my other 3 houses. It is the lightest weight of all the houses, due to the thin aluminum construction. I epoxied the snap- in railings to keep them in place. It is very pretty.
