They work
I was afraid that these might get tangled in my thick, damaged hair but am pleased to say they do not. Simply "screw" them in one direction to hold hair in place and "unscrew" in the opposite direction to take out. Definitely need more than 1 or 2 to hold a thick bun, but they do hold.
