Bought as a gift for a 6-year-old. Although the theatricals were great (in my opinion) but the little kid was scared of the hatching effects until they figured out it was a stuffed animal. i would suggest fully reading the description or watching a video before deciding to buy buying for a child under 6.

This is by far one of my favorite toy purchases! The "realness" of the cracking egg, where the Hatchimal actually hatches, is much more impressive than the simpler versions that just include a stuffed animal and stickers. I'll admit, the main reason I bought it was because it was on clearance—I wouldn't have paid full price. That said, my daughter absolutely loved it. I'd describe it as similar to a Furby, but even better.
