The lids are not super tight but they do stay on. They just "snap" on, no hinges or latches. The lids also collapse slightly when a LOT of weight is put on them such as anther tote that is stuffed full of jeans. The totes themselves are very durable and well made, they do not bulge out on the sides. They hold a lot of clothing yet are a perfect size for moving around. Being see through makes it easy to see what is inside which is so nice, I have been moving all my things from my old solid totes to these. I can stack about 4 before they start getting a bit wobbly. Excellent totes and well worth the price!
