The land of Bruce Springsteen, Southside Johnny, Zakk Wylde, Bill Evans and Count Basie; to which we may soon need to add this saxophonist singer to the list if she continues to create albums of this quality, but we're coming back to this topic soon. Before settling in the South of France, Julie traveled around a lot with her duo 'The Vagabonds' or accompanying musicians (was part of the band, played full concerts or sat-in for a song or two) with Derek Trucks, Tinsley Ellis, Lucky Peterson, the late Sean Castello or Mudcat, Drink Small, Robert Randolph, Cyril Neville. She has also lived in Chicago for 8 years from the age of 22, where she was first 'indoctrinated and accepted' to the blues, but her musical influences do not stop with the blues. They go from jazz to folk to gospel, country, funk, bluegrass, and 50's rock and roll. She founded the Jersey Julie Band in France, in 2011 with her guitarist husband, Olivier Mas, well known on the local scene that also includes the excellent Red Beans and Pepper Sauce (Julie also sang a track on the first album of Red Beans), and with Stéphane Blanc's bass can be heard on full recordings and latest releases, with his cousin Olivia Ruiz. I wasn't too used to hearing a singer/saxophonist so I was really wondering what it was and what direction the album would take. Jazz? Rhythm 'n Blues? Rock'n'Roll 'Springsteenien' (Ah the fiery sax of Clarence Clemons ..)? Funk? Well, it is best to give it a listen.. ... 'Don't Worry No More' (the title track) blew me away from the start ..... OK, pardon me and let me pull myself together (re-arrange my hair). I finished listening to this CD with a huge smile on my face... we can say that the JERSEY JULIE BAND has it all. With the guitar, sax, swing of the upright bass, of course the dynamique singing of Julie and in concert it is sure to be even better. This cocktail; at it's base is boogie, rock'n'roll, blues, jazz, soul; is good sparkling bubbly served by a group that blends so obviously well and does it with the palpable pleasure of playing and creating their own universe. Hotly and Highly Recommended Rockin JL REVIEW 2 Christian Le Morvan BluesMAGAZINE April / May 2013 Goosebumps CD Review Rated Coup de Coeur (More than 4 Stars) The Jersey Julie Band is a trio formed in 2011 with Julie (singer saxophonist, percussionist) from Jersey (New Jersey native hence the name), and her husband/guitarist Olivier Mas and upright bassist Stéphane Blanc. The trio creates in a style American Roots, Blues, Rockabilly, Country, Bluesgrass, .... this group has an overflowing energy. Julie has a clear and powerful voice that is full of emotion. Her excellent singer guitarist husband blends perfectly in
