How to use a dog pad: Caution Do not shake the dog pad as the risk of tearing could cause the contents of the dog pad to come out. 1. Gently unfold the dog pad and place it plastic side down, in a confined area, away from your dog's bed or food. 2. Place your dog on the pad several times so he can smell the pad and get used to it. 3. While your dog is eliminating on the pad, use a phrase like "go potty" so that eventually you can use the command and your dog will understand what it means. 4. Immediately after your dog eliminates on the pad, reward him with praise and a treat. 5. If your dog has an accident, bring him back to the pad immediately. Continue to bring him back to the pad to reinforce that is the place to go potty. 6. Dispose of soiled pads and replace as needed. To complete house training, gradually the move the pad closer to the door and finally outside

Absorb well
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Hartz Home Protection extra large pads are 40% larger than regular size ones, and the light lavender scent helps eliminate odor. The padding inside seems to be thicker than usual ones too and that helps them not leak. When the dog urinates on them, the liquid turns to gel which makes cleanup much easier. You can also use these pads for protecting your car seats or couch cushions, and inside their crates as a lining. I am very pleased with these pads and will continue buying them, I also used them to cover a favorite rug they always liked to go potty on to protect the rug.
