Sony BDP-S6700 4K Upscaling 3D Home Theater Streaming Blu-Ray DVD Player with Wi-Fi, Dolby Digital TrueHD/DTS, and upscaling

DVD collectors, by now, know, the Blu-Ray players are being phased out. At least, the better brands. This Sony player is among the top two or three rated ones. I bought a new one as a backup to keep in stock, and will buy another new or a pre-owned one. That should last my lifetime. Watching movies on DVD beats streaming movies with its lower quality video. Streaming is also constrained by bandwidth availability when you watch, if there is a "congestion" in your neighborhood, the video stream will "degrade". If you like good surround sound, these players provide the output to connect to a Multi-channel receiver.

This is my first 'smart box' or 'smart appliance' for that matter, so I have no point of reference other than the experience of hooking up an older games machine or laptop to a TV. However this small box has everything I need with loaded apps to the sites I use like Netflix, Amazon and YouTube. It connects to the internet easily, and when the device address drops (because of out network set-up) it is easy to recover the connection. I haven't tried using the player yet as there is so much online content that is now available at a quality level. At one point I considered smart TV's as an option, but would perhaps be inclined just to get this box instead. Its price at Walmart was very good compared to many of the suppliers on Amazon - well done to them!
