A Great Serger!

This is a great little machine! I’m new to sewing and was concerned about threading it. It’s very easy, even for a beginner like me, once you’ve gone through it once or twice. I found a super helpful YouTube video by Mom the Maker (of stuff) that walks through how to thread the 1034dx in a clear, concise tutorial. I’ll try to link the video here, but in case it doesn’t work, just search for Mom the Maker (of stuff) on YouTube. https://youtu.be/E7hfQWfpVaM?si=SIZBk3f6NYZHwMq3 IMPORTANT: Make sure you oil the serger before using it the first time. It’s in the manual, but waaaaaay back toward the end. Not sure how Brother expects people to see it there. Anyway, be sure to use sewing machine oil, which you can purchase anywhere. Just a drop in 2 places is all it needs (the manual shows you where). I bought a muffling mat to put the serger on, which really cuts down on noise level and vibration (found on A*m*z*n). All sergers are noisy and vibrate, so it’s not anything unusual at all. I was almost scared away from purchasing the Brother 1034DX due to several negative reviews on Walmart’s website, but am so glad I took the chance. The stitches are perfect as long as you correctly set the tension. I’ve used it a lot since purchasing it a week ago and haven’t had one bit of trouble (except not threading it right the first time) and found the tension was easy to adjust. There are a ton of YouTube videos on how to adjust it…in fact, I think Mom Makes has a really good tutorial on tension, too. The serger thread you use makes a difference, so don’t buy super cheap stuff that’s going to cause your machine issues. I bought Maxi-Lock based on the recommendation from a sewing friend. I highly recommend this serger for those with lots of sewing experience AND for beginners! It’s a great machine that I expect will last a long, long time.
