Fire Sense Clayton Square Aluminum Propane Fire Pit

We've been wanting a fire pit as a fun gathering spot for conversation and entertaining, and I'm glad we chose this unit. We find it attractive, multipurpose, and right-sized for gatherings. Some observations: Things we like: 1. The surface height and area surrounding the flame pit are convenient to reach, to see into the pit bowl to gaze upon the flame activity and to place our food and beverages. 2. The flame control is operated by a (user supplied AAA) battery-powered igniter button and rotary/push control knob and worked flawlessly. The flame lights quickly. 3. The flame can be varied from low intensity, resembling miniature dancing candles, to the higher intensity of a modestly roaring flame, while the white glass fire beads sparkle with or without the presence of a flame. We were surprised at the amount of heat this pit emits at full blast – it was very noticeable on a cool night. The chrome finish of the fire pit bowl suggests rugged durability. 4. The (user supplied) propane tank, is fully hidden under the table and behind a base skirt, yet it is easily accessible behind a door panel that can be secured with the turn of a knob. For those who need it, a natural gas conversion coupling is also provided. 5. The tabletop matching metal pit cover allows full use of the entire table surface when the fire pit is not operated, and it nests seamlessly with the area above the fire bowl. 6. The bronze housing color coordinates nicely with our outdoor furnishings, and we think that the round base, square tabletop design adds an attractive, unique blend of geometric shapes, and importantly, it gives more leg room to those gathered around the firepit. 7. A tan form-fitted and water-resistant appliance cover is provided, and it fits snugly around the entire unit to provide shelter from the elements and animal droppings. 8. The ease of assembly. A helper and I took 45 minutes to assemble the product, although one person could also easily do it. The user/assembly manual is well illustrated and easy to read. Guesswork is eliminated, as parts are easily identified and all hardware is on a single plastic encased printed piece of cardboard. The manufacturer has thoughtfully included an extra fastener of each type, something I appreciate since assembly outdoors sometimes results in a lost fastener. Other: We like everything we've experienced so far, but as with any outdoor appliance subject to wear from the elements, it is difficult to judge how this product will perform over time. Our visual observation of the fit, finish and material components of this product suggest it is made well (packaging states “made in China”). Curiously, the 1-year warranty states that covered warranty returns must be sent in the “original packaging,” which does make us wonder whether failure to retain the original packaging could result in a refusal of warranty service? Hopefully not. Bottom Line: In the brief time we've used it, we found this fire pit to be both attractive, as well as functional and entertaining. There's almost nothing like starring at dancing flames while staying warm. Although one of the warranty conditions is puzzling, we think this product will wear well. We would recommend it to friends.
