You should not touch that wire but do anyway...
Yes I recommend it. You can see my newly made pond and it attracted all kinds of animals. Small and easy to hide under the bridge. Yup, I touched it. I was pulling weeds around it and yes, it stings. It held back a full grown racoon, but make sure the wire is high enough that they can not go over or under. Saved my fish pond.
