Escape From New York (Limited Edition Steelbook) (4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray), Action, Shout! Factory

It's a great looking 4K transfer! One of the most underrated Carpenter films is showcased by this amazing steelbook collection! You get a 4K UHD version of the film and a 1080p Blu-Ray version, as well as a second 1080p Blu-Ray filled with bonus features. The film features Kurt Russel, forced to enter Manhattan to find the president, whose aircraft crashes in the now-prison city. Failure is not an option, as he has been injected with poison, which will kill him if he is unsuccessful. This is one of those movies you have to see once, and will want to show people over and over. It's wild plot, practical effects, and amazing looking set pieces sell the world of Escape From New York. There was a much despised sequel a number of years later, Escape From L.A., but don't let that influence your opinion of this classic. Apart from They Live, not many of Carpenter's films come close to going as wild as this one. The steelbook is nice and holds the disks well. The artwork on the outside is very cool. The disks have a lower than desired print on them, which clashes with how high quality the rest of the set is. There is nothing extra in the case, which is fine, it doesn't advertise anything. There is a typo on the back of the box, which is "onlay one man...", and should be "only one man...". No big deal, it's only on the back insert. I was very happy to find this steelbook, as this is one of my favorite John Carpenter films, and I love owning definitive editions that are practical.
