Elvis Presley was a bit before my time. I know some of his music, but didn't really know much about his life story. This movies centers around Elvis and his manager, Colonel Tom Parker. The movie is partially told from both of their points of view. It is an incredibly interesting story that at least seems pretty plausible and attempts to balance both of their points of view of the events that unfold. The movie has a lot of re-enacted live performances that are sure to please any fan of Elvis' music. Both Austin Butler and Tom Hanks gave great performances. It is certainly a long movie at almost 2 hours 40 minutes, however it kept my attention the whole time and kept me wanting more. Not knowing anything about this story, I had to know how it all went down. Despite this being a movie about music, the real showstopper here is the picture quality. In 4K HDR using an OLED television, it looked simply stunning. I can't think of anything I have watched recently that looked so realistic and made such wonderful use of lighting. Those nighttime shots of Las Vegas and the concerts with the background darkness contrasted with the bright, colorful stage lights looked stunning. The picture was as clear as anything I have seen to date. I figured the sound would be the centerpiece here, but if anything, it was underwhelming. Dolby Atmos is included, but I didn't notice any surround or height channel usage in 95% of the movie. Also, I am not sure the subwoofer ever made a sound. It didn't sound bad, just don't expect a surround heavy, immersive experience. Included is the 4K UHD disc, a Blu-Ray disc, and a 4K digital copy that I redeemed through Movies Anywhere. This is a Warner Brother's release so be sure to redeem by the expiration date as they inactivate those without any grace period. I definitely recommend getting the 4K steelbook version of this film. The stelbook art looks plain at first glance, but there are all sorts of intricate details on the front Elvis logo. The back shows a concert scene. It took me a few tries to get an undamaged copy, which unfortunately has become the norm for Walmart lately. I was worried when I looked at the disc as it had several pretty big scratches right out of the box, however the movie never skipped or had any playback issues. If you are a fan of Elvis' music, or just want to watch a really interesting, dramatic and at least somewhat historically accurate story about one of the most popular musicians of all time, this movie is for you.
