Frees up and still adds space.
Instructions were just pictures. Took a while to figure out the assembly of the rails to the supports. I use mine on top of my desk. Pleased with the weight it can carry since I have the Largest IMAC you can get. Though the wrist rest is good...it sets your wrists too high. Only complaint is the tray rails stick out the back of it about 4 inches so, had to rearrange the top of my desk as to make sure no one gets jabbed or hooked up on those rails when walking by.
