We installed it on our feature wall. It is beautiful and adds ambience and warmth to the room. Note: the electrician who installed a recessed outlet for the TV on the feature wall, recommended not covering the electrical wire for this unit. We installed it low, right above the media unit and under a shelf. Looks fantastic! This unit remains cool to the touch. Clearance is not needed above or below the unit.

The unit has 2 mounting screws on each side, total 4. We added tile backer and ceramic tie on the 2x4 frame and the screws are located such that they did not hit the wood framing. Because of the shallow depth of the fire box, these screws are hard to install, you cannot use a battery powered drill. And it is difficult to install the screws with a screw driver due to limited space. Other than the mounting screws, this is a great unit. Fan is quiet but have not run it much as it's summer. I installed this in an old wood-burning fireplace and re-tiled 12' W x 4' H old brick fireplace face (hearth yet to be tiled), tile from floor to mantle. Tile is stone-look and the insert looks beautiful. We love the flame color options. I wired in a 110v outlet in the old firebox and used the supplied cord for power, did not hard wire the unit.
