Our six year old Whirlpool dishwasher (just out of extended warranty) suddenly stopped washing the dishes and detergent was caked into the dispenser. The electronic control pad was fully operational, and the pump to fill and empty the unit was working fine. A quick Google search of our model number plus the problem instantly revealed this part as the most likely source of the problem. Apparently, the pump that forces water up to operate the sprayer arms went bad (I read you can repair just the pump, but it's easier to do this whole assembly so that's what we did). My husband, who is very handy but has zero appliance repair experience, had the unit apart and this installed in just about an hour. Our dishwasher is working like new again!
