Deck Plus 48844 Exterior White, Wood Screws, Steel, Self-Drilling, (#10 x 2.5"), 1 lb

Ok, so these coated deck screws have made life a bit easier for me. I have been repairing some recent storm damage to my 6' high privacy fence around my back yard. The 4"x 4" existing treated wood fence posts have become rock hard being exposed to years of our Florida sun. I was thinking that both replacing and adding additional fasteners would be a difficult job, even using my impact driver. But the self drilling point of these wood screws had no problem seating into the hard posts. Because the fence boards themselves have a light colored, paint wash surface, the white protective coating of these screws blended in perfectly. In addition the, the protective coating will not cause the screw heads to discolor like galvanized coatings, in contact with some types of treated wood. The package contains a T25 Star Drive bit. I have just about stopped using Philips Drive screws, particularly in applications where the wood is very hard. Star drive screws practically eliminate the problem of stripped screw heads.

The screw went in nice and straight, it has a flat head which is great for projects because it leaves a smooth, flat finish. We have a lot of white vs. natural wood decking and chairs so this white screw is nice because I don't need to paint it to hide it when we're done. when painting them, they fill the head to where it makes it very hard to get out later if needed. the length was perfect to get through the 2X4. The box comes with it's own bit since the head is a different pattern than a Phillips head. the pattern helped it from stripping when putting them in. The quality of the screw is good, they weren't cheap metal like others that snap or break when drilling them in and the white coat was nice and think. They didn't wear or scrap off to expose the metal.
