Really more hygienic

Excellent product. The U-cutout design is a feature that makes a big difference, as a caregiver, in giving a more thorough shower. And the backrest is a safety must for those who tend to "plop" down onto their seat.

Sturdy seat BUT listed dimensions are wrong

I put this chair together... it says removable back, but if you want to use it without the back, you have to leave it off completely during assembly. That means using the screws that are supposed to hold the plastic backrest on in place of the longer screws which are supposed to be used on the bottom to hold the backrest supports to the legs. IF you leave the backrest off and use the longer screws, they WILL go thru the plastic seat. I viewed this item on many sites to be sure it would fit my MIL's very narrow tub... most bath seats are too wide and this one was listed as 16-1/2" wide at base. It is wider. ACTUAL dimensions after assembled at tallest setting: height to top of seat 18" - width at base (actual footprint inside tub) 17-3/4" - depth at base front to back 19". These measurements are actually pretty close to most other bath seats so I can only hope it will fit. All that aside, if it fits, it feels like a very sturdy stool... it has the much needed "U" shape for bathing and a drain hole in the seat. The rubber feet are good, the seat is textured so doesn't seem too slippery and it seems stable when I've "dropped" my weight (160lbs) from several inches above in a similar fashion to how my MIL lets go and "plops" onto seats
