Gardein Plant-Based Lightly Breaded Turk'y Cutlets, Vegan, Frozen Meat Alternative, 12.3 oz.

I have been buying Gardein Turk'y cutlets for several years and really enjoy them. They come with gravy to which I typically will add mushrooms, but all you really need is a side of vegetables for a complete meal. I also love their Fishless Filets, and if you can find them, their Crab-less Cakes.

These cutlets are a very convincing version of “real” schnitzel/milanesa in both taste and texture. Definitely on my permanent “to buy” list. I'd prefer it if the cutlets were larger, but these must be insanely popular with kids so I suppose the size makes sense. For grown ups two pieces are a more realistic serving. I air fried these for 10 minutes at 425°, turning them over once, and they came out well cooked and satisfyingly crispy. Another couple of minutes probably wouldn't have hurt them. Didn't try the gravy – I'm a bit of a schnitzel purist so I enjoy them as is with a squeeze of lemon over them. If you do use the gravy add some sliced mushrooms for a Germanic jäger sauce. Next time I'm going to give them a quick spritz before cooking with that “I Can't Believe It's Not Butter” spray, which can add a more buttery flavor and help with the crispiness. Quick, easy, tasty and more than good enough to please a carnivore as well as a vegan who misses this eternal and nearly universal favorite meal!
