There is a lot wrong with this product, but I want to say that if you know what you're getting yourself into with it, you can make it work. Most importantly, you CANNOT use this product “as is”. If you do, there are very serious safety issues with the hardware provided. First, the shelf brackets that are provided are 5”, the length of the longest shelf is supposed to be over 13”. The general rule for getting brackets for shelves is that the shorter part of the bracket should be at least 2/3 the length of the shelf, with the longer part attaching to the wall. Meaning the brackets you would want for the largest sections need to be at least 9” not 5”. These rules are for static shelves that have a constant load, remember that these cat shelves will be having your cats jumping and moving on them; thus adding more weight and force to them. Additionally, you really want to get the right brackets for these because the larger sections are actually pretty heavy. Second, the dimensions of the shelves are reversed. It appears that the holes for the bridge and scratch poles are on the longer side instead of the shorter side, this means that the shelf sticks out 13.55" instead of the 12". Given that it is a shelf, if the long side is what is against the wall, the shelf will fall. The photos online, and the manual also show the correct configuration. I needed to drill new holes on the correct sides in order to assemble the shelves as shown by the seller. Lastly, the included anchors will not work over time; the jumping and moving of the cat will loosen the drywall around the anchor and it will fall out. You shouldn't use any plastic anchors for this, you need to use metal toggle anchors which latch to the other end of the drywall, or drill directly into a stud. While I am a handy person, and was able to solve all these problems, I thought it was important to share my experience for anyone else thinking about buying this set. Someone might buy this and think that they could put this behind their couch and above their heads, or in a living room near where kids play, without knowing the serious safety issues with this. If one of the larger sections were to fall from even a few feet, it could do serious harm to your cat, or anyone else.

It took my boyfriend and I three days to install this because we had to continually reinforce the bases of the shelves with wood. They are made from that material that looks like wood shavings all pressed together and the screws do not hold. I have two adult cats and just got a kitten, only one used a shelf at a time. We tried the anchors provided, we tried our own anchors, we measured and used studs, everything you could possibly think to do to get these attached to the wall and even without a cat in them, they would pull away from the wall. The brackets provided are not nearly long enough and don't span the depth of the shelf, causing bending and a lot of stress. Our brackets BROKE IN HALF today after just a few months of having these shelves. No more than three of four. All three of my cats were in the room that housed this deathtrap and could have gotten horribly injured. Really disappointed I wasted my money because my cats really enjoyed this, but it's just not safe.
