Perfect for replacing my old ERV!

I am really impressed by the AI Series B160E75RT ERV from Broan. I had an old, non-functioning ERV in my which was the original one that came with my house. As a homeowner with a fair amount of knowledge, I decided to tackle installing the install myself and Broan couldn't have made it any easier. The self-balancing feature alone was enough to sell me. I took a look at a number of ERVs from different companies but the Broan AI Series checked all the boxes for me. I am really excited to have my fresh air system in my home functioning again. I am going to be installing the touchscreen wall controller soon so I can see the status of the unit without having to be in my attic.

Fantastic unit

I have had this installed for several months now, with the Speed Selector wall control. I installed it myself, replacing a 10 year old machine of different make. I am really thrilled with this machine. Overall, I am getting about 105 CFM tops, but that was expected given the many long ducts in the house. Pros: - Quiet. Perfectly fine on all speeds. - Self balancing - totally awesome. When you hook it up it gives you CFM readout of intake and exhaust and you can see it self-balance. - Easy to install. Self-balancing is a must for DYI. - The boot-up and self-calibration is awesome. Runs through a check when you first boot and tells you the max airflow you can achieve with the ducting you have, and what the restriction is: intake or exhaust. Allows you to select a programmed in (lower) Max airflow if for some reason you don't like the default (because of noise or whatever). - Unit seems very well made. I would say quality is very high. - Easy to access and service interior parts. They seem to have thought of everything, including even having spring-loaded clips and a great rubber seal on the front access door. - Relatively light at 30 pounds. Cons: - Minor quibble: The self-tapping screws to attach the hold-up brackets to the unit have a Phillips/square head. They require quite a bit of torque that is very difficult to achieve with a Phillips head. The square head driver is not that common in the US. - Another minor item: With the Speed Selector wall control, it would be great if it had a separate on/off switch. Two of our neighbors have meat smokers, so we always turn off the ERV when we are leaving the house. Now you have to toggle through all the settings. Also, would like the switch to be able to toggle up or down on the speed, not just up as is the case now. This replaced a 10 year old ERV that failed. Once you have had an ERV/HRV you will never want a house without one again. Fresh air all the time.
