I like that this doesn't need to be adjusted - the pad is stationary. Filling the base with sand is recommended if you don't want it to move at all, but if you need to move it around filling with water is the way to go. I like that the nut fits into the base for easy tightening. It does come loose during the workout, but it can still be used that way and then be easily tightened back up again. This is an actual pad (NOT an inflatable balloon) inserted into a base that gets filled with either sand or water for stability. I don't know if Teflon tape is required when filling it with water, but I used Teflon tape on mine just to be on the safe side to prevent leaks. Another benefit of using a freestanding pad like this is you don't need any tools to install it and you don't put any holes in your walls or ceiling or risk damaging your home from the weight hanging off the wall studs or ceiling joists. There is another style of this pad that doesn't unscrew, but it's harder to roll if you need to move it and you have to replace the entire thing if anything happens to it. This pad, on the other hand, can have just the base or just the pad replaced separately which makes it more affordable down the road. I haven't tried it yet, but I expect that putting some kind of tape on the pad screw would help keep it from loosening - kind of like with the Teflon tape helping prevent leaks. I have already started using my pad and I highly recommend this style over the other mounted and/or inflatable ones. This one isn't cheap, but the quality and durability are worth it.
