Humidity Level doesn't match Thermostat Level

It works fine. It looks great. It's easy to refill. Sadly, the high readings on the machine aren't even close to the ones our thermostat records as the humidity in the room. The Levoit says 55%/the thermostat says 27%. It's in the right sized room, but not sure it's really doing any good.
